DVD is, so far, the ultimate video format. I was hooked on DVD in 2000 when I saw The Matrix on DVD on a home theater system. It was amazing. Since then DVD is the only format for watching movies outside a theater I find acceptable. Plus, I'm a DVD extra junkie. If it has a commentary or deleted scene section, I almost have to have it. It's that bad. And since I've been watching DVD, I've come to understand why widescreen anamorphic presentation is the desired format for movie watching (most television shows are not made in that format). | Here's the deal. You need to be watching movies in widescreen format, or more specifically in their OAR (original aspect ratio). You wouldn't want to read a book that had 1/3 to 1/2 of the chapters missing would you? Well, Pan and Scan transfers of films cut out just that much from movies.
