Job: Assistant Director for New Student and Leadership Programs in the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of North Carolina Charlotte
Hobbies: Aikido, comic book collecting, DVD collecting (and watching), movies, reading almost anything, being a pop culture junkie, urban legend bebunking
Professional Interests: Academic Affairs and Student Affairs collaborations; learning communities; college freshman development and programming; leadership development (especially student leadership); GLBT issues in higher education; aggression in our culture; gender communication; personality typing and work styles (especially temperment and MBTI). Other interests include cultural studies, particularly American pop culture studies. The scholarship of teaching and learning holds some interest as well.
Avocational Interests: I am the Vice-President of the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard of Charlotte, a peer helping and referral telephone hotline.
Immediate Family: My husband is Peter Thorsett. He is the Associate Director for Technology Services at UNC Charlotte and in the process of completing his PhD at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. The Thinkingink home site, which is currently down for renovation, was created by him. He is pictured above.
Mom is a professional Mom and Dad works for a major insurance company. My sister is employed as an administrative professional.
Friends on the web: In no particular order, Monica (pictured above) lives in Texas now. She has a Masters in Medical Ethics and works for an international shipping company. Go figure.
John A. Kirby, physician, aikido buddy, and judo expert, with two kids and a lovely wife, Angie. They live in TN. John and I met by being RAs together. Visit his home page here.
Countess, former co-worker and supervisor, supervises the entire residence life staff at Georgia State University and continues her search for a quality straight black man in Atlanta. You can barely make her out leaning next to me above.
Shannon, former co-worker, supervises a bunch of crazy people at GSU and continues her search for yet another girlfriend (to add to the list ;).She is in the denim shirt sitting on the right-hand side of this picture.
John Usher, my aikido instructor and engineering professor at Mississippi State University. John is one of the finest men I've ever met - a great mentor, teacher, and man of faith. Check out his home page.
