Economics 201 Introductory Economics: A Survey Course (4) Theory of consumer behavior, theory of firms, supply and demand, costs of production, market models, national income and employment theory, money and banking, monetary and fiscal policy, debt, and international economics.

Economics 311 Intermediate Microeconomics (3) Theories of consumer behavior, of production and costs, of price and behavior of firms in perfectly competitive, monopolistic and imperfectly competitive markets, input prices, income distribution, welfare and general equilibrium. Prereq: 201.

Economics 313 Intermediate Macroeconomics (3) Measurement of income and prices, aggregate demand, output, employment, price determination, inflation, business fluctuations, fiscal and monetary policies and growth. Prereq: 201.

Economics 331 Government and Business (3) Antitrust and regulatory economics, problems in regulation and social control of business organization, oligopoly models. Prereq: 201.

Economics 400 Economics of Health and Health Care (3) Medical care and health status; demand for medical care and insurance; physician and hospital supplies; government provision of services and insurance; regulation of health care markets. Writing emphasis course.

Economics 471 Public Finance: Optimal Government Functions and Expenditure Analysis (3) Problems of collective consumption, external effects, public investment, social decision making. Prereq: 201. Writing-emphasis course.

Economics 472 Public Finance: Taxation and Intergovernmental Relations (3) Individual taxes and tax system, non-tax sources of revenue, fiscal federalism. Prereq: 201. Writing-emphasis course.

 

Political Science 101 United States Government and Politics (3) Introduction to fundamental institutions and processes of American National Politics including the Constitution, voting, the Presidency, the Congress and the courts.

Political Science 340 Introduction to Public Administration and Public Policy (3) Public agencies, their organization, personnel, and financial management and administrative responsibility; the policy-making process, political environment.

Political Science 441 Public Budgeting (3) The process, participants, and politics of government budgeting, with emphasis on federal government budgeting. Includes an overview of budget reform measures and their effectiveness.

 

Management 101 Introduction to Global Management (4) Introduction of a conceptual framework for understanding the dynamics of the contemporary global business environment. Cultural, economic, legal and political aspects of global management practices. Comparative analyses of key business practices and institutions in selected global sectors (e.g., Asia, Europe, North America). BUS 101 or 102 is prerequisite for all subsequent business courses.

Management 203 Management Information Systems (3) Management of information concepts and applications. Using the computer as a tool to source, organize, and analyze data. Designing information systems to meet business needs. Emphasis on spreadsheets, database management systems, telecommunications, and information technology. Prereq: Open to College of Business Administration students only. E

Management 301 Principles of General and Operations Management (3) Basic functions of general management and the concepts and techniques used in operations management. Includes lectures and discussion/problem solving sessions. Prereq: Statistics 201. E

Management 401 Business Strategy/Policy (3) Strategy and policy which affect the character and success of the total enterprise. Capstone course which integrates all functional areas in the formulation and implementation of strategy which will enable the organization to reach objectives. Major writing requirement. Prereq: Completion of business core courses and senior standing. Must be admitted to a business major.

 

Business Law 201 Three lecture hours per week. Recommended Preparation: eligibility for ENGL 800. Introduction to the study of business law, including sources, agencies, and enforcement procedures. Emphasizes the ability to understand and review simple contracts and a basic understanding of contract law. Discusses sales warranties and consumer protection legislation (CSU/UC) (CAN BUS 8)

Business Law 301 The Legal Environment of Business (3) Introduction to legal system including legal ethics (jurisprudence), sources of law, steps in lawsuits, constitutional law related to business, administrative regulation, securities law, antitrust law, employer-employee relations, product liability, consumer protection, business associations, environmental law, international law, contracts, and white collar crimes and torts. Prereq: Junior standing.

 

Accounting 201 Principles of Accounting I (3) Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Preparation of financial statements, use of financial information for investment-related decisions. Accounting for cash, receivables and payables, inventory, plant assets, intangibles, liabilities, debt, and owners' equity. Analysis of financial statements.

Accounting 202 Principles of Accounting II (3) Prerequisites: BUS 201 and MA 106. Preparation and use of accounting information for management decision making. Internal accounting systems and procedures. Managerial accounting reports: budgets, profit performance reports, costing systems, control reports, analytical reports.

Finance 301 Financial Management (3) Principles of financial management. Investment, financing and asset management functions of the firm. Prereq: Accounting 201 and Economics 201. Coreq: Accounting 202.

General Business 114 Statistical Reasoning for Business (3) Prerequisite: Sufficiently high score on the Mathematics placement exam (contact the Mathematics Department for the exact level needed), or 0206-104. GEC Area A3. This course will introduce students to the processes by which valid statistical inferences may be drawn from quantitative data. Topics include design of experiments; sample surveys; measurement; summary and presentation of data; regression and correlation; elementary probability; the law of averages; the normal, t, and chi-square distributions; confidence intervals; and hypothesis testing. A computer laboratory component will introduce the student to spreadsheets and statistical applications. Offered every semester.

Marketing 301 Principles of Marketing (3) Practical applications-oriented overview of what every manager needs to know about marketing to be able to effectively provide value to customers of the organization. Prereq: Accounting 201, Economics 201, Junior standing.
