Different noise levels are appropriate for different times and activities. This handy reference list can be used to show your students what levels are appropriate for what times. It was published in the September 2003 issue of "Scholastic Instructor."

Level 0
Work Time: No talking or noise

Level 1
Conference: Whispers

Level 2
Group Time, Reading, and Writing: Quiet Voice

Level 3
Meeting Time: Medium Voice

Level 4
Outside, Recess: Loud Voice
